The rose absolute rosa damascena is a highly concentrated essential oil from Damask roses. This cultivated variety from Asia Minor is characterized by a heavy, intoxicating scent and belongs to the rose family. Producing rose oil requires very many flowers. Already 60 rose blossoms are used for a single drop of rose oil. Absolutes are produced when plant essences cannot be obtained by steam distillation. In this process hexane extracts the aromatic compounds from the petals and is then removed by distillation. The resulting concrète is a milky fragrant paste that is treated with alcohol, heated and filtered to obtain the final oil.
