The Modül Dok Deluxe Travel Set turns the Modül into a stand-alone device. The Dok is a handheld of three-millimetre borosilicate glass with a four-hole stem percolator and an aluminium stand; together with the Modül that makes a complete vaporiser which no longer requires a Gravity Infuser — but can still be fitted onto one. For the trade the set is therefore the entry point into the Modül system without a device costing several hundred euros having to be there first. Anyone upgrading later takes the same Modül with them.

Who is the set for?

For customers who want the Modül without buying a Gravity Infuser first. The Dok replaces the base device with a handheld and thereby makes the set a stand-alone vaporiser. Anyone who later does buy an Infuser can carry on using the same Modül. One article therefore covers two groups of customers: those who want to start small and those looking for a second device for the road. Both buy the same set.

What the Dok is

A handheld of three-millimetre borosilicate glass with a percolator in the stem. Four holes break up the vapour and lead it through the water; the result is a cooler, softer draw than from a straight tube. The aluminium stand holds the glass upright. Three millimetres of wall thickness is a lot for glass and the reason the Dok survives handling at the table. A case is nevertheless a sensible addition.

Two devices, one Modül

The Modül fits both the Dok and the Gravity Infuser and the Kompact. For customers who own both that means one heat source, two ways of using it — on the Dok when out, on the Infuser at home. For selling that is a strong argument, because it does not rule out buying the Infuser but prepares for it. The customer comes back later for the larger device.

Fifteen seconds

With the tank in place, operating temperature is reached in about fifteen seconds. For a device working with quartz that is a good figure and the reason the Modül also suits short sessions. Anyone who wants quick, short sessions gets further with this than with any charcoal setup, where lighting alone takes longer. In the sales conversation you can demonstrate this simply by counting along.

Magnetic tanks

The quartz tanks are held magnetically and detected automatically. They exist for dry material and for concentrates; changing takes seconds and needs no menu. Prepare several and you can work through a group without refilling in between. For the trade the tanks are the most reliable repeat purchase in the whole Modül system. Stocking both kinds covers dry material and concentrates.

Display and controls

The 2.4-inch colour display shows every value; the dial is operated one-handed and sets the draw time. There is no menu tree and no app — what you see on the device is all there is. For customers coming from electric devices with menu navigation, that plainness is an advantage rather than a shortcoming. You see everything at a glance and set it with one hand.

Battery and cable

6000 mAh is enough for up to fifty sessions, and charging takes about two hours over USB-C. Pass-through allows operation on the cable, and the supplied 90-degree cable stays out of the way while doing so. Fifty sessions last several days in everyday use, and because the device usually sits on the table anyway, charging is rarely an issue. The angled cable is worth more than it sounds.

Four glass colours

The Dok comes with clear, blue and grey glass as well as in the Khalifa and Tyson 2.0 editions. Technically they are all identical; it is purely a decision about looks, but one that shows on the shelf. Anyone who wants to carry them should buy early — editions appear in limited numbers and cannot be reordered afterwards. In our experience they sell faster than the standard version.

Cleaning

The Dok comes off and is rinsed out; the percolator tolerates isopropyl alcohol. The tanks are emptied while still warm, otherwise it gets tedious. Because the glass is visible, you see when cleaning is due instead of tasting it. A cleaning kit therefore belongs in every order that includes a Dok. It costs little and prevents the most common disappointment after the first few weeks.

The set or the Modül alone?

Anyone who already owns a Gravity Infuser only needs the Modül. Anyone who has none, or who wants a device for the road, takes the set — the Dok is considerably handier than any Infuser and works on its own. Both routes lead to the same Modül. The two routes are priced far apart, so the decision comes down to the equipment already owned. Anyone starting with nothing is clearly better off with the set.

How to use it

1. Fill the quartz tank with material and insert it magnetically.
2. Fit the Modül onto the Dok and place the Dok in its stand.
3. Switch the device on and select the draw time on the dial.
4. Let it heat for about fifteen seconds, then draw slowly.
5. After the session empty the tank while still warm and rinse out the Dok.
