Description

The Smono 3 is the house classic: a convection vaporiser developed in Germany, built for years and now in its fourth version. 136 grams, an extendable Pyrex mouthpiece, a stainless steel chamber and a temperature range running from 120 to 221 degrees. For the trade it is the article with the longest sales history and the least need for explanation. Sell a Smono 3 today and you can still supply a screen for it in three years — with this device that is not a phrase but a matter of record.

Features

  • True convection heating, the heating element does not touch the material — nothing scorches on the chamber floor
  • Temperature range from 120 to 221 degrees, unusually wide for a device this size, from the full aroma to vigorous extraction
  • Stainless steel chamber for around 0.2 g, easy to clean and still without a taste of its own after years
  • Extendable mouthpiece of food-grade Pyrex glass, cools the vapour on the way, pushed in the device stays pocketable
  • Heat-up time of around 25 seconds, a good figure for a convection vaporiser, even at a low set temperature
  • 1600 mAh battery for six to eight sessions of four minutes each, that is thirty to forty minutes of operation
  • Bright OLED display with temperature, battery level and operating state, bright enough for outdoors too
  • Air-carrying parts shielded from the electronics, free airflow and a soft draw — the draw stays light and even
  • Compact dimensions of 5.1 × 7.6 × 2.5 centimetres at only 136 grams, one of the handiest convection vaporisers there is
  • Also suitable for concentrates with the right insert — an add-on sale that can be raised in passing
  • Developed in Germany, now in its fourth device version, the spare parts fit across the versions
  • Storage box, tamping tool, brush and tweezers included — nothing needs buying separately
  • Manual in German and English, rare among imported devices and a clue as to where the device comes from
  • Two plus one year manufacturer's warranty, handled directly through us rather than an importer overseas

Who is the Smono 3 for?

For customers looking for a handy device that has worked for years and for which every spare part exists. The Smono 3 is not a novelty item but a long-runner, and that is precisely its argument. In the trade it is the device you recommend to customers who want no risk and have no time for the industry's fashion cycles. It sells through recommendation as reliably as through the display. For the wholesale trade it is moreover the article with the steadiest demand across the year, without seasonal peaks and without slumps.

Convection in a small format

True convection in a device this size is not a given; most compact vaporisers work by conduction because that is simpler to build. On the Smono 3 air is heated and drawn through the chamber, and the heating element does not touch the material. The result is clean, aromatic vapour without burnt patches in the herb. The price for that is a deliberate, slow draw — anyone used to it wants nothing else. Draw too hastily and you get little — that note belongs in the sales conversation, otherwise the device comes back as supposedly weak.

The wide temperature range

120 to 221 degrees covers more than most customers need but opens up room. Right at the bottom aromas can be worked out without much visible vapour; at the top the extraction becomes vigorous and complete. Between 180 and 200 degrees lies the range most customers settle in. That span is the argument against devices with three fixed steps. For the trade it is an easy argument to make, because it can be expressed in a single number.

The Pyrex mouthpiece

The mouthpiece extends and thereby lengthens the path the vapour travels — every centimetre cools. Pyrex is food-grade, flavour-neutral and can be cleaned without any special care. Replacement mouthpieces are available individually; since glass breaks eventually, they belong on the shelf. Pushed in, the mouthpiece also makes the device pocketable. A second mouthpiece on the shelf saves the customer a week without their device and the trade an unnecessary complaint.

Battery and running time

The 1600 mAh battery delivers thirty to forty minutes of operation depending on the temperature set, that is six to eight sessions of four minutes each. Charging happens over USB-C. At high temperatures the running time drops noticeably, which is in the nature of the thing and no defect. For daily use that means charging about every other day. Anyone travelling a lot carries a power bank, because the battery cannot be swapped.

Version 4 and what it changes

The Smono 3 has been built for years and revised repeatedly; the current version 4 has the USB-C port and an improved mouthpiece seal. What matters for the trade is that spare parts fit across the versions — screens, seals and mouthpieces are interchangeable. Customers with older devices can therefore still be supplied, which is what makes the brand worth something. For the customer it means a six-year-old device does not become electronic waste just because a seal has gone porous.

Cleaning

The stainless steel chamber is brushed out and the glass mouthpiece rinsed; residue dissolves in isopropyl alcohol. Stainless steel tolerates any treatment and takes on no taste of its own, which puts it ahead of coated chambers. A brush and tweezers are included. Clean thoroughly every few weeks and there is no drop in performance over years. A cleaning kit therefore belongs in every order with a Smono 3; it costs little and prevents the most common disappointment.

Concentrates

With the right insert concentrates can be vaporised too, which widens the field of use. For the trade that is an add-on sale which can be raised in passing during the consultation. Note that concentrates clog the chamber faster and demand more frequent cleaning. Anyone using both should keep two sets of screens on hand. For the trade the concentrate insert is an item worth mentioning actively, because hardly any customer asks for it unprompted.

Warranty and origin

The Smono 3 comes with two plus one year of manufacturer's warranty, which applies under normal use and runs directly through us. It was developed in Germany, which shows in details such as the German-language manual and the spare parts situation. In the sales conversation that is a point which carries weight particularly with sceptical customers. For the wholesale trade the short procedure also means complaints do not stay open for weeks.

Smono 3, 4.5 or 4 Pro?

The 3 is the most compact and lightest of the three and the only one with the wide range starting at 120 degrees. The 4.5 has the larger battery, the airflow slider and two mouthpieces. The 4 Pro offers the largest display and the longest running time. Anyone looking for a small device for the move takes the 3; anyone working with it at home is better served by the larger models. The three are priced close together, so the decision comes down to format and equipment rather than budget.

How to use it

  1. Fill the stainless steel chamber loosely with finely ground material.
  2. Fit the Pyrex mouthpiece and extend it.
  3. Switch the device on and select the temperature, around 190 degrees to begin with.
  4. Let it heat for about 25 seconds, then draw slowly.
  5. Brush the chamber out after the session while it is still warm.
